Inpui (Kabui) Celebrates Karing Ngei (Festival of the Living)
The Inpui Students' Union Delhi (Inpui Ningbwan Indung Delhi) marked the festivities of Karing Ngei, the largest celebration of the Inpui (Kabui) Naga tribe, at Nehru Park, New Delhi, on January 12, 2024. This vibrant festival is observed with grand celebrations in various Inpui (Kabui) villages and localities in Manipur and Nagaland.
Karing Ngei (Festival of the Living) holds significant cultural importance as the grandest celebration within the Inpui (Kabui) Naga tribe. Historically, this festivity was preceded by Tataak, a poignant ceremony symbolizing the farewell to departed souls as the year drew to a close.
Karing Ngei, now a cornerstone of the tribe's traditions, signifies the dawn of the new year, characterized by exuberant enthusiasm and jubilant festivities. This cultural event not only pays homage to ancestral customs but also ushers in a spirit of renewal and communal celebration, embodying the rich heritage and collective delight of the Inpui (Kabui) Naga tribe.
The Inpui Students' Union Delhi organized an array of traditional dances, songs and games, including heitho, tren kaloi, tren saphun, aiphun, sana-nupa, tangan-aan kadai etc. Additionally, the event showcased various forms of entertainment, such as contemporary song performances, bakiaknu, and a unique competition involving the consumption of lemons and chillies.
The gathering concluded with a heartfelt blessing prayer, seeking prosperity for the upcoming year and earnestly desiring the restoration of peace in the state of Manipur.
