Meephamlen held & Life Time Achievement given
The World Meetei Council in its Meephamlen - General Conference on the 17th of February 2024 at South Barak Hall, Binnakandi, Cachar, Assam had felicitated two distinguished Meeteis with the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.
This award is given annually to outstanding Meeteis from around the world in recognition of their lifetime services and achievements.
This year’s awards were conferred to UK based renowned medical professional Dr Irengbam Mohendro Singh and USA based Dr Waikhom Sanahanbi Devi for her lifetime services in the field of Emergency Medicine.
Dr Irengbam Mohendro Singh accepted the award via video conference and expressed deep humility and appreciated the WMC for its works in bringing together all the Meeteis from across the world.
Meephamlen held & Life Time Achievement given
The Presidential address was given by the Chairman of WMC, Heigrujam Nabashyam. In his address, he focused on the current need of the Meeteis to be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes in India.
He spoke about how the Meetei population has been overtaken by other communities and how the upcoming delimitation exercise in 2026 is going to affect the Meeteis Socio-politically. He urged the Chief Minister of Manipur to send the two reports, viz the Ethnography and socio-economic reports without further delay.
The conference concluded with all the members observing a 2 minutes silence in respect of all the departed souls who were killed during the course of the current violence.
