Manipur romp past UP on way to Sr Women's NFC final round

Imphal, December 01 2023: Manipur romped past Uttar Pradesh 8 0 on their way to the final round of the 28th Senior Women s National Football Championship 2023-24 .

The state squad emerged Group A winners after their 8-0 demolition of Uttar Pradesh at Mahamaya Sports Stadium, Ghaziabad, on Friday.

Manipur made a clean sweep of all their three matches in the group stage to earn a smooth passage to the final round, which will be held in West Bengal in April, 2024.In their last match, Ng Bala, H Daya and Dangmei Grace each scored a brace to help Manipur end their group stage campaign on a high note.

They dominated the game from the word go as Bala opened the floodgates with a quickfire double.

She opened the scoring after six minutes and went on to double the lead in the 11th minute.

N Priyanka upped the scoring ante when she made her effort count in the 19th minute before Daya made it 4-0 in the 20th minute.

Then Dangmei Grace found their fifth goal in the 31st minute as Daya scored her second and team's sixth goal in the 43rd minute to round off the first-half barrage.

Manipur collected two more goals in the second half with Grace scoring her second goal in the 53rd minute and Ksh Margaret adding one in the 70th minute to wrap up the victoiy.

21-time champions Manipur played alongside Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and hosts Uttar Pradesh in the Group A.The group stage saw 30 teams divided into six groups.

The six group winners and three best runners-up in the group stage will qualify for the final round of the 28th Senior Women's National Football Championship.

The final round will see two groups of six teams each, from where the top two teams will qualify for the semifinals.
