Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu felicitated

Imphal, January 25 2018: Indian female weightlifter, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu who won a Gold medal in the 48 kg category at 2017 World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, United States last year was felicitated today jointly by All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and All India Students Federation, Manipur State Coucil (AISF) at Irawat Bhawan.

The felicitation programme was graced by N Singhajit, in-charge, AIYF/MSC, M Joykumar, in-charge AISF/MSC, M Somorjit, president, AIYF/MSC and Kh Rameshwor Singh, State secretary, AISF/MSC as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, M Joykumar said that Manipur is regarded as the sports powerhouse only because of the hard and determination of the players across the State.

He further said that, the status which Mirabai enjoyed today is because of her self belief and honest dedication she made during her struggling periods.

He also expressed his willingness to urge the State Government to provide a suitable job to Mirabai who is currently serving in Railways.

On another occassion, 16 canoe riders who bagged many medals at the 28th Canoe Sprint Championship 2018 held recently at Bhopal were also felicitated along with the officials at the residence of Jotin Waikhom located at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai.

The programme organised by All Manipur Canoeing Association was attended by P Saratchandra, MLA Moirang AC, Jotin Waikhom, president All Manipur Canoeing Association as chief guest and functional president.
