Imphal, February 09 2014:
A fine all round display with the bat and ball from Rohit helped OSCAR down WCA by 23 runs in the 1st Plate Cricket Tournament being organised by Manipur Cricket Association at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam, today.
Winning the toss, OSCAR opted to bat and riding on a fine all round innings from Rohit who compiled a patient 21 runs off 53 and bagged four wickets managed to beat WCA by 23 runs.
WCA did well in restricting OSCAR to 118 runs all out in the allotted 30 overs through some fine bowling from Parri and Kala who returned match figures of three wickets each.
However the batsmen of OSCAR showed patience and tact, keeping their composures cool and tackling the dangerous balls while not sparing the loose deliveries that came their way.
The bowlers of WCA kept a tight line and length and did not really let the batsmen of OSCAR score at will.
The notable contributors for OSCAR with the bat were Gemson who showed character and patience in piling up 26 runs off 46 balls.
Not wild shots, with Gemson picking the loose balls to keep the score card moving.
Heman on the other hand took the attack of WCA by the scruff of the neck and scored a breezy 26 runs off 26 balls.
His innings however did not last long and as he misread a ball and was dismissed to take a walk back to the pavilion.
The breezy knock of Heman was however what OSCAR needed as it gave the other batsmen the confidence to tackle the balls delivered by the bowlers of WCA.
Rohit then stepped in and compiled a patient knock of 21 runs off 53 balls, with the wickets at the other end falling at regular intervals.
Rising to the moment, not to gift away his wicket, Rohit piled up his runs through some quick runnings between the wickets and in the end this was counted, for it helped his team to reach a respectable score of 118 runs in the allotted 30 overs.
Put into bat in the second innings, WCA were bundled out for a platry 95 runs in 23,1 overs.
With the bowlers of OSCAR extracting the right amount of bounce and keeping a tight line and length, the batsmen of WCA were bogged down, unable to cope with the penetrative bowling of OSCAR.
Rohit led the way in demolishing WCA, scalping four wickets followed by Bobby and Samson who chipped in with two valuable wickets apiece.
For WCA Jellish led the way scoring 38 runs off 55 balls and Mydon 15 runs off 42 balls.
For his contributions with the bat and ball 23 runs and four wickets, Rohit of OSCAR walked away with the man of the match award.
Tomorrow, ESU (Wangkhei) will take on FORCE (Kshetrigaon) .
