Imphal, April 16 2015 : Joint Action Committee Against Heirok Branch Canal has said that construction of Heirok branch canal will lead to eruption of people's uproar.

JAC convenor M Jarma said that people are against the construction of the canal and any forceful move of the Government would lead to mass uproar.

He said that people are against the project as it would not only snatch away the livelihood of many people but also create food scarcity.

Jarma said that Singda dam, Khuga dam and Khoupum dam projects have failed to serve any purpose.

As such, the State Government must not construct the canal by acquiring a huge tract of agricultural land.

This would only reduce agricultural productivity, he added.
