Retired Director of Prosecution Ng Tejkumar has urged the Government to appoint a regular Director of Prosecution at the earliest.
Speaking to reporters, Ng Tejkumar said that after he retired from the post on March 1, the Government has appointed a senior officer of the Law Department as the in-charge of Director of Prosecution.
He said that the Director of Prosecution is a significant post which handles many important legal related issues.
As per the legal processors, police stations can't directly submit the charge sheets to the Court.
It needs prior screening/scrutiny of the Director of Prosecution, Ng Tejkumar said.
As such, the Director of Prosecution must have thorough knowledge of prosecution and investigation, he said.
He urged the Government to appoint a regular Director of Prosecution to enable proper functioning of the mandatory legal processors.
In case the Government is not in a position to appoint a regular Director of Prosecution, the post can be kept under the State Home Department under Section 25 A (3) by taking a Cabinet decision, Ng Tejkumar said.
