Kangpokpi, May 02 2016:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) today expressed serious concern over the alleged re-
peated attempt to deploy Manipur police commandos in the hill
districts by the State Government.
Joseph R Hmar, president, ATSUM said that Manipur police commandos have been collectively censured and con-
demned in the hill districts of Manipur due to their unappreciated character while recalling the unfortunate incident
of Churachandpur, Mao, Moreh, Noney, Ukhrul, etc.
He alleged that the commandos are bringing more problems
to the State and the people everywhere instead of controlling
the law and order situation.
The student leader also said that Manipur police commandos are for and must be utilized only for specific and short
term purposes and they should not be stationed permanently
or semi-permanently in the hill districts of the State.
Joseph further said that it has been the stand of ATSUM
in the past, present and it will be in the future that there should
not be a station or Outpost of commandos in the hill districts
of Manipur.
"Community participation in bringing law and order situation in the hill districts of Manipur is in fact a huge success
for peace and development", asserted the ATSUM leader while
adding that the Government of Manipur should go in this
direction for sustainable peace", it said.
