Imphal, April 16 2015 : Police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to control the angry locals of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai and JAC members, who blocked Singjamei-Kongba road and tried to storm a house at Khongman Zone-2 at around 2.30 pm today.

They clamped a bandh at Singjamei area protesting the death of RK Diamond (25) of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai.

The youth reportedly succumbed to a head injury after he was found lying unconscious at the courtyard of his friend Hidangmayum Rocky Sharma (25) of Khongman Zone-2 yesterday morning.

At around 2.30 pm today, members of the JAC formed in connection with the incident and locals of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai tried to storm the house of Rocky.

A brief confrontation took place between the mob and police as they were blocked at Khongman Mangjil area.

Later, police dispersed the mob by firing several rounds of tear gas shell.

Since early morning, large number of bandh supporters came on the street and blocked roads at several areas of Singjamei.

The bandh supporters burnt tyres and piled up hard objects on Singjamei-Kongba road.

A large number of police personnel were deployed at various parts of the Kongman Zone-2 and surrounding areas from yesterday to thwart any untoward incident.

On the other hand, womenfolk and family members staged a sit-in-protest near Singjamei bridge demanding early arrest of the culprits.
