Imphal, February 19 2016 : Former MLA Loitongbam Sarat passed away at his Singjamei Oinam Thingel residence at around 10.40 pm of February 17 following an illness.

Late L Sarat was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1972 on MPP ticket from Singjamei Assembly Constituency.

He once held the post of Planning and Development Authority (PDA) Chairman.

He completed BA from DM College under Gauhati University in 1959 and MA (Economics) from Poona University in 1965 .

Apart from teaching at Thoubal College for sometime, Sarat served as the Headmaster of Laishram Dev High School, Singjamei Kakwa Lilando Lampak.

He is survived by four sons and one daughter.
