Thoubal, December 27 2019:
A 2-day library awareness programme organised by Manipur Library Association (MALA) in association with Ningol Club, Heirok and under the sponsorship of Raja Rammohon Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) Kolkata, began today at the conference hall of the club at Heirok Part-III.
The inaugural programme was attended by MALA president, Kangjam Chaoba Singh; Ningol Club Heirok secretary-general, Sophia Khundongbam and JNIMS Imphal Chief Librarian, Dr S Sophiarani as the presidium members.
In the evening session, MALA vice-president Y Lakshman; former president, N Inaocha and NIELIT Kohima, Librarian Kh Nanda spoke about the benefits of Library to the students as well as to the community.
On the occasion, Ningol Club Heirok assistant secretary, Elangbam Sanahanbi asserted that any given society or State can be considered developed only when every woman becomes educated.
Saying that women, especially in interior villages and far-flung areas, are not aware of many welfare schemes introduced for them by the Government of India and the Constitutional and legal safeguard they have, due to lack of education and awareness, Sanahanbi continued that women participation in decision making and politics is comparatively low even today and gender-based violence is on the rise due to lack of education.
With a belief that only through education, women can display their strength and competence, the awareness camp is being arranged, she said, urging all to inculcate the habit of reading book.
She also appealed the MLA concerned to introduce a plan to ensure that every woman of Heirok gets an opportunity to higher studies.
Students of different schools and club's members operating at Heirok also attended the function.
