Imphal, January 08 2013:
In the light of the recent developments in the State that were communal and medieval in nature in the form of community based nationalism such as Alternative Arrangement, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has assailed the State Government for its alleged silence when it should talk and act.
At the same time, the MPP also urged all civil society organisations concerned not to issue any public statement that would vitiate the socio-political atmosphere of the region which is already tense.
In a statement, signed by Heigrujam Nabashyam, the VP of MPP noted that the State has been witnessing developments that are communal and medieval in nature of late.
But the most unfortunate part is that the Congress Government in Manipur, which has been power for more than a decade, remains mute when it should talk and act, the MPP said.
The Government may be at loss for the next step of action and waiting for Delhi to act on its behalf or maybe it is waiting for a miracle to solve all the problems by themselves, the MPP further derided.
"MPP would also like to place on records that certain policies of the Govt of India in dealing with the various insurgent groups of the region have also sent out signals that encourage communal activities of certain groups besides promoting hill-valley divide," the statement said while citing the case of NSCN (IM) as a glaring example.
It further expressed strong reservation over the manner in which the Government of India is dealing with the militant group.
The MPP also appealed all organisations concerned of the region, which are active in and out of Manipur, not to issue any public statement that would vitiate the socio-political atmosphere of the region and Manipur in particular, which is already in ill-health.
