Imphal, July 05 2015 :
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has demanded action the police personnel who heckled a girl student when a group of students tried to storm Assembly complex on July 3 .
In a statement, the committee said that police must not forget that the rallyists and agitators are the people of the State and they deserve respect as brothers and sisters.
It was condemnable to chase the rallyists like animals by the police, the statement said.
The committee expressed wonder why the MLAs of the State are sitting as a silent spectator at this critical juncture without raising any voice regarding the matter.
The committee's demand is to pass a Bill to regulate the entry and exit of the citizens of other States of India in Manipur for the protection and safeguarding the indigenous people of Manipur.
The committee said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had told them that MRVTMW Bill 2015 has covered 70-80 per cent of the demands raised by the committee.
The Chief Minister's response is a clear indication that he does not fully understand MRVTMW Bill 2015, the committee said.
Saying that the Bill does have a point regarding protection of indigenous people, the committee demanded immediate withdrawal of the Bill.
On the otherhand, the committee also urged the general public to extend monetary help to meet the expenditure of the pro-ILPS movement.
