The JAC and family members of Samulailatpam Jayenta of Nepra Company, Thoubal, who was found dead while going to Lunghar in Ukhrul for sawing wood, today urged the police to arrest his companions for questioning.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Samurailatpam (O) Rani w/o of (L) S Jayenta said her husband left for Lunghar village in the morning of April 27.He told her through mobile phone that he had reached the village in the evening of the same day.
She communicated with her husband through mobile phone the next day also.
However, the death of her husband was informed to the family by another group of sawyers through mobile on April 30, Rani said.
She said that her husband went along with Sagolsem Pakpi (65) of Nepra Company and Kharibam Rajen (60) of Charangpat Maning Leikai.
But the news of his death did not come from his companions.
The two also alighted at Yairipok when her husband's body was brought home.
Besides, the two never turned up till today to condole the death, Rani said.
She said that the death became more suspicious as injury marks were detected at the head and groin area of her husband's body.
It may be mentioned that the body of Jayenta (42) was found in a gorge at Lunghar village.
The body is still kept at RIMS morgue after a post mortem was conducted.
Jayenta is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
At the same time, JAC convener, Ch Sumila said that the JAC has submitted a written complaint to Ukhrul PS demanding the arrest of the two companions of Jayenta for interrogation.
She urged the police to probe the matter thoroughly and in a fair manner.
She further said that the body will not be claimed and intense agitation will be launched until justice is delivered.
