National Rural Drinking Water awareness campaign concludes

Tamenglong, March 22 2015:
The week long awareness campaign on National Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation Awareness on Saturday concluded in Tamenglong.
The programme was organized by Transformation for all Communities Centre (TCC) sponsored by District Water Sanitation Committee/ PHED Tamenglong.
A closing ceremony was held here at Shekinuh Inn Tamenglong with Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong as chief guest.
G Shantikumar Kabui, SDO Tousem, H Bighadon, Special Engineer PHED and L Poucharei Rongmei were graced as guest of honours and president of the function respectively.
Earlier, a mass awareness rally was staged with holding banners and placards.
The placards read like "Plant and Preserve Trees; stop deforestation and save water source; let's construct sanitation latrine; preserve forest, preserve water source"; etc.
The rallies which kicked off from Mini Stadium Tamenglong passed through the main bazaar and ended near the market and formal closing ceremony was held at the Shekinuh Inn.
Ajin Thaimei, AE (PHED) Tamenglong in his welcomed address said that during the weeklong awareness campaigned various activities like quiz, easy competition and spot painting competition were conducted in connection with the National Rural Drinking Water & Sanitation awareness campaign.
He informed the mammoth gathering that the closing ceremony was suppose to held tomorrow but to Sunday, it has prepond for today.
Management Devolution Index fund was also distributed to five villages today and the remaining villages will be given to the concern village, Ajin Thaimei added.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tameng-long urged the people of Tamenglong not to be panic about the swine flu diseases.
Water bond diseases including diarrhoea, dysentery and cholera have been lessen in the district, people has now know how to use clean drinking water, this is effort of the PHED, he lauded.
In his guest of honour speech, H.Bighadon, SE PHED mentioned that despite of the effort made by PHED Tamenglong, the various schemes like Village Water Sanitation Committee and construction of individual sanitary latrine cannot be implemented in the district.
He urged the participants to bring those family who needed to construct sanitary latrine.
Speaking as guest of honour, G Shantikumar Kabui, SDO said that acute shortage of water is crucial problems in Tamenglong.
The causes for acute shortage of water could be tremendous increase in population but the size of the land and ponds never increase.
He also urged all participants to pass the message how to use lean water and preserve water source.
"After 20 years from now Tamenglong has no future for water.
Now is time to plan for future.
We need to preserve forest where water is tap for drinking.
We tap water from Duigailong village but now it has become dried.
Water treatment plant is there but it is name sack, so plan for future", L Poucharei EE PHED Tamenglong urged all the participants.
Numbers of prizes for winners in the competition were also distributed during the closing ceremony.
