India to build Kalewa-Yagi Road

As part of the efforts to strengthen Indo-Myanmar ties, a 120 km long road would be constructed from Kalewa to Yagi in Myanmar by India.
An official source said that the Government of India is expected to expend around Rs 1000 crore for the road project in Myanmar.
A team of Indian officials led by Deputy Secretary of External Affairs Ministry, Anilkumar Rai had surveyed the Kalewa-Yagi road on February 15 and 16 .
The ten-member Indian official team comprised engineers from RITES and IRCON besides engineers from three private companies.
Based on the survey conducted by the official team, a global tender would be placed so as to prepare the DPR.
After preparing the DPR, work agencies would be invited through another global tender, the official source said adding that it might take some time in the process.
The work is expected to begin after a year from now as preparation of DPR and inviting work agencies through global tender may take a year, the source said.
