Co-operative week begins

Like in other parts of the country, the 58th All India Cooperative Week celebration 2011 has kick started with a grand inauguration function at Laishram Leirak community hall today.
The week-long celebration is being organised by Manipur State Co-operative Union in association with different Government agencies and non-governmental bodies.
Different programmes will be organised in different parts of the State as parts of the celebration.
Cooperation Minister L Jayantakumar and Cooperative Societies Registrar and Manipur State Cooperative Union Administrator Thaithuilung Pamei were the chief guest and president of the opening function respectively.
This year's theme of cooperative week celebration is Inclusive Development Through Cooperatives.
Speaking at the occasion, L Jayantakumar said that Manipur cannot rely on the funds coming from New Delhi all the time, so it is time now to enhance the economy of the State by making cooperative movement successful in rural areas.
Indicating that enhancement of rural economy is key to bringing development, the Minister said that the economy of urban areas and and overall economy of the State would boom only when people in rural areas prosper through cooperative movement.
He also expressed hope that only cooperative movement can eradicate poverty and bring human resource development in the State.
