Contractor Kangjam Nilamani was today brought before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Imphal West in connection with the case of alleged shiphoning off of wages and beating up of a woman ESS staff working under Airport Authority of India, Imphal.
Irate ESS staff demonstrated against the contractor when he was brought at the Court complex.
Around 10 people have been working on contract basis as Emergency Essential staff at Tulihal Airport under Airport Authority of India, Imphal for the
last 13 years.
These staff are engaged on a contract basis for one year.
They worked under the contractorship of K Nilamani in 2010-11 .
However, they worked under another contractor in 2012 as Nilamani did not get the said contract.
After Nilamani retained the contract for the year 2013, these staff worked under him again.
Although the fixed rate of wage is Rs 6000 per month, he allegedly asked the staff to take only Rs 3000 .
K Nilamani also allegedly asked the staff to append signature of getting Rs 6000 per month although he gave only Rs 3000 .
Nilamani also allegedly bashed up a woman staff who protested against his insistence at around 8.30 am on December 21 last year at the arrival gate of Tulihal Airport.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the ESS staff, the contractor was arrested by Singjamei police on December 21 last year.
Although he was released the same day, Nilamani was rearrested after the matter was complained at the same police station.
K Nilamani s/o K Pishak of Malom Bazar has been charged under IPC Section 354, 506 and 509 .
Speaking to reporters, ESS staff demanded that K Nilamani be given befitting legal punishment.
The staff also demanded the Airport Authority of India that Nilamani's contract be annulled for sacking 10 ESS staff who have been working for the past 13 years, alleged shiphonning off of wages and summoning the staff at his residence and asked to append signature.
They also urged the authority to retain service of the sacked 10 staff.
