Senapati, May 04 2019:
The United Naga Council (UNC), during its 'presidential council meeting' held in Ukhrul town on Saturday, seriously viewed the manner in which the Assam Rifles operates in Naga areas, according to the Information and Publicity wing of the UNC.
The meeting of the UNC came a few days after the Sihai village stand-off between the Assam Rifles and the NSCN-IM.
Saturday's UNC presidential council meeting "seriously viewed the aggressive nature of the Assam Rifles and its chronic tendency" to harass the Naga villagers in all forms which "prevail till today," according to the UNC's Information and Publicity wing.
The meeting strongly condemned the Sihai village incident, while accusing the Assam Rifles of "creating the situation intentionally just to show off their true colours and also to disturb the peaceful environment of the area", the UNC added.
The meeting then resolved that the Naga people will not tolerate "such a diabolic policy any longer" .
The UNC 'presidential council meeting' added that the "spirit of the hard earned Indo-Naga peace process must be honoured in letter and spirit".
The meeting also "strongly" urged the negotiating parties to translate the "historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement into political reality at the earliest" .
