Kangpokpi, May 03 2023:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur has termed the counter-blockade imposed by the Meitei Leepun as unjustified.
While appreciating the tribal people of the State and tribal CSOs for the successful culmination of the "Tribal Solidarity March" today, ATSUM has taken strong exception to the counter blockade imposed by Meitei Leepun on roads and National Highways leading to hill districts.
The student body stated that the Tribal Solidarity March, organised to peacefully demonstrate the unified opposition against the Meitei ST demand, was joined by a multitude of supporters.
It continued that the blockades on roads and National Highways, however, by members of Meitei Leepun will worsen the situation in the State.
ATSUM also said that the alleged unprovoked action on the part of Meitei Leepun was an affront to all the tribal people of the State.
The Tribal Solidarity March was a peaceful rally and there was no call of blockade or bandh by the tribal organisations in relation to the rally.
As such the counter blockade called by the Meitei Leepun was unjustified, it stated.
ATSUM then appealed to all the tribal CSOs and the people to remain calm.
What pre-emptive measures and preventive steps will the State Government take to control the situation need to be seen, it added.
