Fake currency worth Rs 4 crore seized

Imphal, September 30 2021:
A team of Thoubal police and commando recovered fake currency notes of Rs 1000 denomination amounting to Rs 4 crore and arrested two persons from Keirao Khuman Lok, today.
Sources informed that Thoubal police team received inputs about printing of fake Indian currency notes at Keirao at around 3 am.
Based on the information, the joint team under the supervision of Thoubal SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra rushed to the spot and carried out a cordon and search operation.
During the operation, the joint team searched a hut at Keirao Khuman Lok owned by one Chungkham Dewan (50) of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngariyan Chingkhong Lei-kai, during which the fake currency notes were found.
On questioning at the spot, Chungkham Dewan disclosed that packing and binding of the fake Indian currency notes were done along with one of his associates, Chingakham Surchandra (40) s/o Deben of Keirao Wangkhem, Ngariyan Chingkhong Leikai.

Chingakham Surchandra was also pulled up by the police team for questioning and verification in a follow up action.
Furthermore, the duo disclosed that the seized fake currency notes were handed over to them by one Thongram Tony of Thiyam Konjin Makha Leikai, presently staying at Keirao Bitra and his nephew Thongram Arun of Keirao Thiyam Khunjao.
Sources further stated that Thongram Tony had contested the State General Assembly election from Keirao Assembly Constituency in 2012 .
Massive search operation is on to arrest Thongram Tony and his nephew who are on the run, said sources.
Chungkham Dewan and Chingakham Surchandra have been handed over to Irilbung police station along with the seized fake currency notes.
