'Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) play a critical role in providing legal services and awareness'

Imphal, June 30 2021:
An online Capacity Building Programme for Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) on 'The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme, 2019 was organised today by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Imphal West under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
The speaker cum resource person for the programme was Brahmacharimayum Supriya, Advocate, said a press release by DLSA, Imphal West.
The speaker elaborated on the POCSO Act and its various provisions with regard to age, punishable offences, punishment etc.
She also explained how the POCSO Act is often linked with Juvenile Justice Act in the context of Manipur while disseminating the various aspects of the Act and also the Manipur Victim Compensation Scheme.
The programme revolved mainly around the need for the PLVs to be well versed with these laws meant for protecting children considering the PLVs play a critical role in providing legal services and awareness to the people residing in villages and localities through the Legal Aid Clinics located at various places of Imphal West such as Changangei, Haoreibi, Sekmai, Phayeng, Patsoi Part III, DC Complex, RIMS Campus, Palace Compound and so on.
An interactive session was held where the PLVs raised various questions regarding various cases experienced by them and were convincingly explained by the speaker as to how those problems could be handled appropriately as per law by the PLVs.
