Itham Tangkhul village negates 'electrified' claim

The Manipur Peace & Integrity (MAPI) Council organised the "See the People Meet the People" programme at Itham Thangkhul Village, Kamjong district on April 29 and it occasion was graced by N Bimol Meitei, president MAPI Council, Wungreingam Ningshen, village chief, Itham Tangkhul and Robin Shinglai, VC HAOMEE Research Guild as chief dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Wungreingam Ningshen lamented the pathetic condition of the village road and zero availability of electricity in the village.
He said that Itham Thangkhul village is inhabitated by 250 villagers and is situated not more 60 Kms away from Imphal via Nongdam but due to the deplorable road condition and lack of proper infrastructure, all the fruits and vegetables that are abundantly produced in the village could not be transported out of village and 1ay wasted over a period of time.
He also played down the tall claim of the Central Government that every villages in the country have been electrified claiming that Itham Tangkhul village is yet to see light and is plaqued by the non-availability of electricity even though the installation of electric equipment was completed in 2008.He further highlighted that the villagers have to travel 20 Kms to Nongdam to get proper medical service in case of emergency due to lack of proper road that connect the village to the city.
In line with State Government's "Go to Hills" slogan, MAPI Council urged the authority concerned to look into the miserable condition of Itham Tangkhul village.
