Imphal, September 22 2013:
The All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation has decided to suspend passenger service on Imphal-Ukhrul road from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat office here this afternoon, the federation's secretary Arambam Priyokumar said that bus service between Imphal-Ukhrul will remain suspended until an understanding is reached between the federation and the Tangkhul Naga Long.
He also sought Government's attention to resolve the matter.
As agreed between TNL and the Ukhrul District Bus and Truck Owners' Association which is a primary member of the federation, Ukhrul District Bus and Truck Owners' Association has been paying Rs 12,000 to TNL annually since many years back.
However, TNL using letters written by village chiefs, let many Winger vans operate on Imphal-Ukhrul road without official permits.
Following this development, the bus and truck owners' association stopped its annual payment to TNL.
Even though TNL's general election is scheduled on September 25, its care-takers/office bearers asked the association to clear due payments on or before September 19 .
On the same day, six buses heading for Ukhrul from Imphal were seized by volunteers of TNL, Priyokumar said.
Pointing out that TNL is a civil organisation whereas the federation has been serving public with Government permits, Priyokumar decried that TNL was taking the law into their hands.
The agitation would not cover any private vehicles but any one found carrying passengers should be held accountable for any untoward incident, added the secretary.
