Ukhrul Fire Sub-Station functions sans Sub-Officer

Ukhrul, March 22 2015: Despite fire service accorded top priority in towns, the Ukhrul Fire Sub-Station located at Phungreitang in the District Headquarters has been left to its own fate without a full-fledged Sub-Officer (SO) to run the department effectively.

"It is necessary that each sub-station anywhere has a full-fledged sub officer in the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI), but the government has deliberately left our sub-station without SO to run the same for over a year now, " said ASI Johnson who has been assigned as SO in charge without confirming his position since 2013 .

He said that since he is just an ASI, he faces several constraints and difficulties in assuming the duties of SO .

"We have appraised the Imphal head office of the requirement many times and even IG Indramani has assured us of fulfilling our demands " Johnson informed adding that nevertheless the higher authority is not taking any action in this regard even after more than a year.

He also complained that even the sub-station building is in a deplorable state and may crumble any time putting the lives of the staff and equipments at high risk.

The sub-station is currently operating with five firemen and three fire tender drivers under the SO in charge Johnson who is also the leading fireman.
