Shillong, March 17 2015: A total of 20 journalists from ASEAN countries and a representative from ASEAN Secretariat are on a familiarization visit to India.

ASEAN Secretariat had recommended that the journalists visit North East India and accordingly the journalists visited North Eastern Council Secretariat yesterday The visit is a part of the ASEAN � India Media Exchange Programme 2015-2017 of Ministry of External Affairs to encourage media exchanges between India and ASEAN countries with an aim to provide exposure to the ASEAN media on contemporary developments of India.

Ameising Luikham, secretary, NEC welcomed the journalists to the NEC Secretariat.

He said that such visits would encourage media exchanges between India and ASEAN countries and open up new areas of cooperation in business and trade, health, education and culture etc.

An introductory presentation on North Eastern States and NEC was made by Adviser (Banking, Industry and Tourism) .

Adviser (Transport and Communication), NEC made a detailed presentation about the potentials and developments of North Eastern Region.

The journalists were briefed about the trade routes between NE India and ASEAN countries.

The delegation includes Anoma Rathida, (news anchor and reporter, Leo National Television, Leo, Laos), Hul Reaksmey (reporter, Combodia Daily newspaper, Combodia, Phonom Penh), Sao Phal Niseiy (news editor, Thmey Online News Media, Phnom Penh), Regina Abuyuan (business section editor, Manila Bulletin, Phillipines), Julie Ande Miranda Aurelio (reporter, Phillipines Daily Inquirer, Phillipines), Luong Nguyen An Dien (deputy managing editor, Thanh Nien newspaper, Hanoi, Vietnam), Tran Thi Bich Hanh (vice director, International Division, Nhan Dan newspaper, Hanoi, Vietnam), Nyein Chan Lin (editor, Global News Light of Myanmar), Ranggini Krishna (journalist, Televisi Republic Indonesia, Medan, Jkarta), Muhamad Ali Azhari Anwar (managing editor of Globe Asia and head of business desk of Jakarta Globe Newspaper, Jakarta), Phatsurang Dechabuddharungsi (reporter and anchor, World News and ASEAN desk), Phoochanok Rukthai (correspondent and NES anchor, Thai News Network), Hana Nazsulaeeqa Harun (political journalist, News Streights Times), S Mailaselvan (chief news editor, Makkal Osai, Malaysia), Reeta Raman (senior producer, 938 LIVE News Radio Station, Media Corp) and Albert Wai (senior correspondent-foreign, daily newspaper TODAY) .

The group was accompanied by Rajender Kumar, Publicity Officer (XLM) of External Publicity Division of Ministry of Extenral Affairs.
