Imphal, April 16 2015 : Even though the site selected for the National Sports University in Thoubal district is being contested, the maiden session of the university may be commenced from June or July this year, informed an official source.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Joint Secretary G Iyengar came here yesterday and discussed about the sports university with State Government officials.

An area of 350 acres set aside for the sports university was handed over to the Joint Secretary.

The meeting discussed about commencing the university's maiden session at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex as a temporary arrangement before the uni- versity is constructed at Yaithibi Loukon, Thoubal district.

The Joint Secretary asked the State Government to make office arrangements for the VC, the Registrar and the Finance Officer of the sports university.

The sports university Bill would be tabled in the forthcoming monsoon session of parliament so that it becomes an Act and the university's first session is started by June/July, conveyed the official.
