Senapati, November 01 2019:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly reacted to the statement of Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) issued by Sominthang Doungel, vice president (Political Affairs) of Kuki Inpi Manipur and which appeared in the media on November 5 .
Clarifying, the UNC said that the State Government (Order No 2/8(1)/2016, dated 13-10-2019) had issued a directive to Kuki Inpi Manipur to remove the "objectionable words and distortion" of the history "in defence of our/Kuki ancestral land and freedom" and the "Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919", commemorating "the so called" centenary celebration on October 17, 2019 .
Defying the State Government's directive, the programme was carried out without removing the "self claim and objectionable words", the UNC pointed out.
According to the UNC, the name of Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh as chief guest and Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh went unchanged on the monolith at C Aisan village, Saikul subdivision.
The UNC said, "Glorifying the self claimed history, the State Government had declared October 17 as a restricted holiday without any historical basis".
The Naga body added that "indigenous people of the State" questioned the wisdom of the State Government for declaring restricted holiday for "non indigenous people" .
The UNC then stated that, totally contrary to all agreed terms and conditions reached between the Government of Manipur and the Kuki Inpi Manipur on October 16, 2019, "and File No 7/1/2019-NE-1, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, dated 29th October 2019", the Kuki Inpi Manipur "strongly countered and challenged" the Government's directive and "even dares that the 'Kuki people will unitedly stand against any force that questions our rights to defend our history'" .
The UNC asserted that the "indigenous Naga people" will never accept and tolerate "self claimed and concocted" history from any non indigenous people of the State.
"Any situation arising out of this matter shall be held responsible by the intruders," the Naga body cautioned.
