Imphal, July 05 2013 :
Questioning if Chorro village under Kamjong block of Ukhrul district, Manipur is being offered to Myanmar under an exchange formula chalked out by the Government of India, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has warned that it would be constrained to launch different kinds of protest movement together with the people of Manipur if the news report about the exchange offer is true.
Since the time Manipur was merged into the Indian Union, the territory of Manipur has been shrinking year after year, the most landmark chapter being the gifting away of Kabow Valley to Myanmar, said a press release issued by UCM.
If some part of the present territory of Myanmar lawfully belongs to Manipur, UCM is ready to fight for it but if the Government is scheming to exchange Chorro village for some disputed land on Moreh side, UCM would never remain silent.
The Government need to look into the conditions of villages located along the international border and see how many are still surviving.
Conveying gratitude to the leaders of Chorro Khunou village for their unyielding determination to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur, UCM appealed to all the border villages including Jessami and Chongloi to protect the territory of Manipur collectively.
