Ukhrul Police yet to crack Jessy murder case

In what appears to be a premeditated crime, a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband on Friday evening at a farmhouse in Narep, Meizailung, Ukhrul District.
The deceased has been identified as Jessy Phungchamnao (33), daughter of Ayo Zingkhai of Kasom tang, Ukhrul.
In connection with the murder, Ukhrul Police on Saturday picked up her husband identified as Themmithan Phungchamnao hailing from Langdang village along with another suspect woman identified as Liem Mahokva also from Langdang village.
The two are being remanded in police custody for six days till May 7 while investigation is still on.
The deceased bore torture and cut marks all over her body.
Her funeral service was held at her father's house at Kasom tang on Sunday last.
Meanwhile, local sources claimed that suspect Liem Mahokva was a witness to the killing, while informing that Mahokva herself has also recounted partly what happened on the fateful Friday night.
Sources quoting Mahokva statement said that she along with a man identified as Akhan Longpi visited the couple's farm on the day to collect some vegetables where they had drinks together.
Soon after she dosed off due to the drink but she was awakened by a shrill voice just outside the farm house and on inspecting she saw the inebriated husband Themmithan who is a drug user and alcoholic, thrashing Jessy which she duly intervened.
Sources further quoted her that thereafter around 8 pm Themmithan brought in Jessy unconscious and laid her on the bed.
Later in the morning when Mahokva was in the toilet, Themmithan cried out loud that Jessy had died.
Meanwhile, police have said that investigation in the murder case is still on to crack the clue, adding that Akhan Longpi is allegedly at large.
Meanwhile, Grace Luikham former President of Hunphun Shanao Long, Hunphun Headman I/C Wungnaoyo Shimzingwo, Ashom Ragui Chairperson Kasomtang Shanao Long and many others have strongly condemned the brutal murder.
