CM reveals Green Park plan at IMC complex

Inaugurating the newly constructed Olympic Bhavan at Khuman Lampak sports Complex today, chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has declared that the Imphal Municipal Council complex would be developed as a Green park as a part of the Government's Imphal City beautification plan.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ibobi conveyed that after shifting of the Manipur State Assembly Secretariat complex from its present location the same would be utilised as office of the IMC.
Pointing out that there would be restriction on multi-storey building construction within the city limits, he said both Government and private building construction at the outskirts of the capital city would be encouraged.
Expressing satisfaction that Manipur has earned global recognition on account of its rich cultural heritage and excellent performance by Manipuri sportspersons, the Chief Minister exuded confidence that establishment of the Olympic Bhavan will encourage the sportspersons to strive for further excellence.
Inaugurating the new building in the presence of Manipur Olympic Association president MLA Bijoy Koijam, who is also Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board and Sports Minister DD Thaisii, the Chief Minister said taking into cognisance achievement of the players at the national and international level of competition, the Spf government envisioned construction of the Olympic Bhavan at a cost of Rs 4.82 crores under the Special Plan Assistance.
Further stating that construction of the Bhavan was undertaken based on the appraisal of the Manipur Olympic Association in the interest of the sports lovers and players of the State, O Ibobi highlighted that so far 119 players who excelled at National Games have been provided jobs in different departments of the State in recognition of their achievements.
He also assured that more employment opportunity would be provided in future for encouragement of sportspersons in the State.
The Chief Minister stated that besides giving priority to law and order, health and education sector, the government has started focusing on culture, sports and tourism as well.
He also emphasised on the importance of discipline, team spirit and sacrifice in the field of games and sports, and added that efforts are also being made set up National Sports Academy at every district to promote sports and to produce more talented sports persons.
In his presidential speech, Sports Minister Thaisii stated that Manipur has great potential in the world of sports and games.
"We are yet to fully harness the talent of our youth in this field.
Given the right opportunity our youth will show more impressive results," he added.
The Minister said that sports and games will become a compulsory part of the educational syllabus in schools.
The Prime Minister has been requested to declare Manipur as 'Sports High-tech City' during his visit, the Minister further informed.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed Imphal Western Club Indoor Stadium at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai, Imphal.
The 1500-seater indoor station has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crores with a built up area of 125 X75 ft.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, Power Minister T Phungzathang, IFC Minister N Biren Singh, PDA Chairman Dr Kh.
Loken Singh, MLAs L Nandakumar and Y Surchandra Singh were also present in the later function.
