Imphal, August 31 2016:
Following an understanding which was arrived at a meeting held with Chief Minister O Ibobi this morning, oil tanker drivers have called off their cease work strike.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, IOC's Chief Divisional Retail Sales manager and State Level Coordinator.
However, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union maintained that they would go on with their cease work strike.
The meeting agreed to send empty tanker trucks and LPG bullet tankers with CRPF escorts and a special team of Manipur police this evening on fuel transportation duty.
The same security escorts would bring in loaded tanker trucks and LPG bullet tankers from Khatkhatti, Assam.
The meeting further agreed on resumption of normal duty at IOC's Chingmeirong depot.
A late report informed that the scheduled convoy movement was cancelled after some trucks were vandalised by blockade supporters along Mao-Imphal highway today.
However, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union maintained that they would go on with their cease work strike.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office this afternoon, the union's general secretary Maimom Anil said that they would not call off their strike as long as there is economic blockade.
Any attempt to coerce LPG bullet tankers to join movement of convoys would not be tolerated.
LPG bullet tankers and NRL tankers would continue with the cease work strike, he added.
