Imphal, March 17 2015:
While urging the State Government to bring a solution to the ongoing stir launched by college teachers, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has requested the college teachers to suspend their ongoing cease work strike considering the inconvenience being faced by thousands of college students.
Speaking at a press conference, DESAM president M Angamba said that All Manipur College Teachers Association (AMCTA) launched their stir demanding appointment of regular Principals and removal of Education (U) Director Vaiphei from the post in November last year due to which classes in Government colleges could not function properly.
Although the teachers intensified their agitation by launching cease work strike from February 18, the State Government is however maintaining silence on the issue till date, Angamba said.
Saying that the State Government is totally neglecting the education system, Angamba said that as per the UGC norms, semesters have to be completed every six months with each semester having 90 working days.
As no proper class has been conducted in the past four months, students are worried about their examination to be held in May, he added.
He also flayed the Education Minister for not giving any comment/statement regarding the ongoing stir in the State Assembly.
Instead, the Minister told the Assembly that 'no work no pay' would be imposed on the agitating teachers, Angamba said.
He urged the State Government to hold a meeting with the agitating teachers at the earliest and bring a solution to the issue considering the academic career of students.
Angamba further said that both the Chief Minister and Education Minister must resign if they are unable to bring an end to the present stir.
On the other hand, he also urged the teachers to suspend their stir saying that DESAM would not remain silent if the present situation continues.
Urging the teachers to stage other form of protests instead of resorting to cease work stirs, Angamba asked the teachers not to enter the college campus if they are not willing to take classes.
