Pharmacist dons doctor's role

A Government pharmacist posted at a Primary Health Centre has been found diagnosing and treating patients as if he is a qualified medical practitioner.
Acting on a specific information, the State Vigilance Commission raided Leimapokpam PHC, Bishnupur district on April 6 and the pharmacist was found doing the works of a doctor.
The pharmacist identified as Yumnam Ibohal was appointed as AYUSH pharmacist in 2012 under the State Health Mission.
The pharmacist was given the duty of a doctor every Monday by the PHC's MO-in-charge.
Prescriptions made by the pharmacist for treating an infant have also been seized by the Vigilance Commission.
Many other documents including OPD duty register and appointment orders have also been seized.
The Vigilance Commission has already initiated an enquiry into the case, informed a source.
The pharmacist in question is a Diploma in Homeopathy, added the source.
