PREPAK salutes 'martyrs'

In memory of the three 'revolutionaries' who were killed in a gun battle with a combined team of State Police and CRPF at Kameng, Leimarok on November 12, 1978 and other cadres who were killed in the course of the ongoing revolutionary movement, the proscribed PREPAK is observing 'martyrs' memorial day tomorrow', conveyed a press release issued by the outfit's assistant secretary, publicity and propaganda Leibakngakpa Luwang.
It appealed to all the people to offer floral tributes at graveyards of the martyrs and also to light up lamps at all the residential gates at 6 pm tomorrow.
It also appealed to the people to abstain from organising any form of entertainment programmes tomorrow.
The gun battle at the PREPAK's transit camp of Kameng, Leimarok claimed the lives of PREPAK's Ayekpam Dhiren alias Angam of Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Phurailatpam Kabikanta alias Leimu alias Leingam Sharma of Sagolband Meino Leirak and PLA's Pukhrambam Gambhir Singh of Singjamei Makha Naorem Leikai.
In memory of the three martyrs, PREPAK has been observing martyrs' memorial day on November 12 every year since 1979.The gun battle of November 12, 1978 was the first incident in the modern history of Manipur where revolutionary cadres sacrificed their lives in the ongoing liberation movement, claimed the outfit.
This incident aroused PREPAK to launch offensives against security forces.
PREPAK's Red Army attacked Moirang police station on September 22, 1979 and killed one ASI and two Constables and confiscated sixteen .303 Rifles.
This was followed by an attack on CRPF at BT where Road on March 26, 1980 in which one CRPF personnel was killed and injured two others apart from snatching a folding carbine.
On April 26, 1980, Red Army attacked a convoy of CRPF at Langjing Keithel and killed three CRPF personnel.
One 303 rifle was also confiscated.
Continuing with their offensive, a 10-member unit of the party led by supreme leader RK Tulachandra attacked a team of MR personnel who were guarding Kabowakching sugar factory on November 12, 1985.RK Tulachandra lost his life in the ensuing particular gun battle.
Taking November 12 of 1978 and 1985, PREPAK has been observing November 12 as martyrs' memorial day in memory of all the martyrs who have laid down their lives in the course of the liberation movement.
Following the footsteps of those martyrs, PREPAK would continue its struggle for freedom and egalitarianism with renewed vigour and dedication, the outfit pledged.
