Imphal, May 09 2024: Meira paibis staged a sit-in protest today at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai condemning the planting of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the locality by unknown persons.

The bomb with a lit fuse was planted at the residence of one Sapam Romi of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai under the jurisdiction of Kakwa police station.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Sapam Deeparani, secretary, Singjamei Sapam Leikai Apunba Lup, shared that the bomb was discovered around 1.24 this morning near Sapam Romi's gate.

Initially, the lit fuse of the bomb was mistaken for leftover mosquito coil used by meira paibis of the area.

However, upon closer inspection, the wires were discovered and the lit fuse was promptly put out.

After notifying Kakwa police station, the police team inspected the object and declared it to be a powerful bomb with the capacity to destroy upwards of 100 houses if it had exploded.

Condemning the planting of such a powerful bomb in a densely populated residential area, Sapam Deeparani has demanded a clarification from the culprits behind the bomb threat.

Appealing against such violent acts in the future, she maintained that Sapam Romi is an ordinary auto-driver who has been undergoing treatment for an eye ailment.

He has no enmity or rivalry with any persons.
