Imphal, February 09 2014: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Manipur protested this afternoon at Nagamapal Traffic Point against crimes perpetrated on North East students in Delhi.

Speaking to media persons, Narendra Sapam, Secretary , State Unit said that Delhi has always been a capital of crime against the Northeast people especially students studying in various colleges in the capital.

He stated that in the past, a series of crime had occurred, sparking widespread anger.

First, a student from Anuranchal Pradesh was brutally beaten to death followed by physical assault on two Manipuri girls and a 14 year old girl being raped by the landlord's son at Murnika on Friday which is nothing but a pure case of racial discrimination, he said.

Incidents like these made the people of the NE States to question themselves and others if they really are the citizens of India.

If yes, why the people from the Northeast are been discriminated and alienated, he added.

He further alleged that the State and the central Government did not initiate any effective steps to punish the culprits.

He said that the State Government failed to persuade the Central Government to take up actions against the culprits and create effective helpline and that failure has led to all the unfortunate incidents.

He further added that ABVP Imphal Unit strongly condemned the unfortunate incidents and urged the Delhi Government to take up necessary steps to punish the culprits and to ensure such incidents do not occur in future.
