New Delhi, November 04 2015:
A symbolic sit in demonstration with 9 coffins of the 9 bodies still lying at Churachandpur morgue was held today afternoon at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Hundreds of youth and tribals from Manipur residing in Delhi gathered in solidarity and unity.
The demonstration organised under the aegis of Manipur Tribals' Forum, Delhi (MTFD) submitted a memorandum to the President, Prime Minister, BJP chief Amit Shah and also to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
According to the demonstrators, the symbolic sit in demonstration is to sensitize the larger public about the ongoing crisis in Manipur hill areas, and particularly to mourn the loss of nine innocent lives, including an 11 year old boy.
Demonstrators stated that, it is now more than 60 days without any developments, since the passing of three controversial Bills in the State Assembly on August 31, 2015.Demonstrators alleged that the State Government has shown no interest in addressing the concerns of the tribals in the State and have instead tried to get the Central Government to give assent to the Bills which have since been referred to the President.
The systematic discrimination and oppression of the tribal people in Manipur has a long history and the three Bills are only symptomatic of yet another attempt at subjugation they said.
Besides a show of solidarity, condolence messages, songs , speeches from various individuals and a short video presentation on the movement against the 3 Bills were presented.
