KSO, ANSAM suspend highway stir for 10 days

The Kuki Students' Organization-GHQs and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) have decided to suspend the proposed indefinite highway bandh starting this midnight for 10 days.
The decision to suspend the bandh was taken in the aftermath of the nearly 2 hours long meeting held late in the evening today with the Government, said Seiboi Haokip, general secretary, KSO-GHQs and AC Thotso, education secretary, ANSAM in a joint statement.
Education Minister, Moirangthem Okendro; IFC Minister, Ngamthang Haokip; T Vaiphei, Commissioner, Education (S) and N Praveen Singh, Director of Education (S) represented the State Government while a team compromising of 8 members led by Paotinthang Lupheng, president, KSO-GHQs and Seth Shatshang, president, ANSAM represented the student bodies.
The meeting was held at the office chamber of Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro at about 2 pm.
It also said that in meeting the 'Government assured us to fulfill our demands within the stipulated 10 days time' .
However, the two student bodies warned that if the Government of Manipur fails to implement its assurance within the stipulated time the suspended stir could come into force any time.
The two apex student bodies had yesterday decided to go ahead with the proposed indefinite bandh on all the highways of the State including NH-2 (Dimapur-Moreh), NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam) and NH-150 (Jesami-Mizoram) from today midnight alleging that the Government of Manipur had failed to give any positive response over their memorandum to regularize the service of the hill districts contract basis teachers 2006 batch under the Directorate of Education (S) and to rule out the problems of acute shortage of teacher in the hill schools and to ensure justice to the contract basis teachers.
