Plastic bottle banks launched

Launch programme of plastic bottle banks organised by Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers & Allied Industries, Manipur was held at Hotel Imphal, here on Friday.
The plastic bottle banks were formally launched by MAHUD/RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Y Khemchand urged the people to abandon the habit of dumping kitchen waste into the dustbins installed by Municipal Corporation.
Instructions will also be given to those involved in cleaning areas under IMC and council to collect the plastic bottles in the plastic bottle banks while cleaning the area.
Highlighting the need to stop the irresponsible act of throwing plastic waste carelessly, he pointed out that drainage system failed due to clogging with garbage dumped into the drain.
Everyone needs to have a sense of responsibility, he maintained.
The launch programme was also attended by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change deputy director Dr T Brajakumar; Manipur Pollution Control Board environmental engineer Dr W Roshan Singh, Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturers and Allied Industries president Dr M Geetchandra Sharma and AMEA president S Rishikumar as presidium members.
