Imphal, April 20 2013 :
Even as AMSU expressed strong re-sentment against a new order revising rate of saloon services, a representative of barbers said that the previous rate would remain in force for the time being.
Demanding that Deputy Labour Commissioner revoke recently issued order hiking rate of saloon services, AMSU threatened to initiate legal action in case status quo on the rate is not maintained.
Briefing media persons at AMSU office today, secretary general of the students' body Romen Leishangthem insisted that the previous rate should remain in force.
Rejecting the Commissioner's order (Dec 28, 2012) citing 'agreement' between All Manipur Barbers' Association and AMSU at a meeting (Dec 12, 2013) for hiking the saloon service charges that came into effect since April 1, Romen prevailed upon the barbers to stick to the previous rate till the matter has been settled with authority concerned.
Claiming that inspite of AMSU representatives having apprised the Deputy Labour Commissioner not to enforce the revised rate the latter declined to oblige, he also contended that attempt to meet the Commissioner after the order on rate revision had been issued, was not reciprocated positively by the Commisisoner.
Meanwhile, Barbers' Association general secretary Papu Thakur, who was also present during the media briefing, conveyed that the revised rate announced by the Commissioner would not be applicable till the matter has been resolved.
According to the previous rate customers will have to pay Rs 20 for hair-cutting and Rs 10 for shaving.
