Drug peddler remanded

Imphal, April 08 2024: A 19 years old drug peddler who was arrested along with 10 soap cases containing 120 grams of heroin (No 4) powder by a combined team of Phougakchao Ikhai police station and Bishnupur commandos on April 3 from Kwakta Bazar has been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

Accused Khullakpam Eliyas (19) s/o Haji Rashid Ali of Kwakta Ward Number 8 was produced before the Court of Session Judge Bishnupur in-charge today by a team of Phougak-chao Ikhai police station after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.

The PP submitted that on April 3 when a combined team of Phougakchao Ikhai police station and Bishnupur commandos was conducting regular frisking and checking at Kwakta Bazar at around 3.30 pm one Maruti van driven by the accused was seen coming from Phouljang toward Kwakta Bazar in a suspicious manner.

The security forces halted the van and checked it.

During the checking, 10 soap cases containing heroin powder were found.

Apart from seizing the drug item, Khullakpam Eliyas was arrested on the spot by observing necessary formalities in presence of an Executive Magistrate.

During interrogation, Khullakpam Eliyas disclosed that the seized drug items were bought from one Bartix Haokip (21) s/o Thangkholun Haokip of Phouljang village by paying Rs 90,000 and it was supposed to be delivered to one Md Nasir Khan (24) s/o Md Riyajuddin of Kwakta Ward No 5 .

On further investigation, the accused revealed that Md Nasir Khan called him through mobile phone at around noon on April 3 and requested him to collect 10 soap cases containing heroin powder from Bartix Haokip and bring the same to his (Nasir Khan) residence.

Nasir Khan also assured that he would share 50 per cent of the profit earned from selling the heroin powder.

The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the PP and the defence counsel of the accused in length, remanded Khullakpam Eliyas in judicial custody till April 22 .
