PLA Div Secy held, arms seized

Along with the arrest of a Division Secretary of RPF/PLA, a sizeable number of arms and ammunition have also been seized on his disclosure.
A team of Imphal West commandos led by Inspector P Sanjoy and acting under the supervision of Imphal West Additional SP (Ops) Th Vikramjit arrested a PLA cadre from Singjamei Super Market in the night of December 5, informed a source.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Lairikyengbam Somendro alias Kennedy (38) s/o Ibungobi of Phaknung Makha Leikai.
He is reported to be the Division Secretary of Division XII (Chandel).
He holds the rank of Second Lieutenant and was working under RPF's Minority Cell leader Jacky Chiru.
In a statement, the PRO of Police Department said that investigation revealed that Somendro had handed over two Chinese hand grenades and 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to one Lairenlakpam Inaocha alias Palando Singh (51) of Phaknung Makha Leikai, a cousin of Somendro.
On intensive search of the area two Chinese hand grenades with detonators and 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition were seized from a bush at the front side of Inaocha's house.
Somendro further disclosed that he had kept two AK 56 rifles along with ammunition and two Chinese hand grenades at the house of Engpu Chiru (38) of Uran Chiru of Senapati.
Following the disclosure of Somendro a combined team of Imphal West police commando and personnel of 40 Assam Rifles rushed to Uran Chiru village and searched the house of Engpu Chiru.
Two AK 56 rifles along with four magazines and 67 live rounds of AK 56 ammunition, one writing pad, two Chinese hand grenades, one laptop, one transcend disc writer and two 3G adaptors along with incriminating articles were also seized during the search.
On further investigation, Somendro disclosed that two more AK 56 rifles with ammunition were also kept hidden at the house of Waikhom Nimaichand Singh (56) of Ingourok Awang Leikai, Thoubal district.
The combined team also raided the house of Nimaichand and seized the two AK assault rifles along with six magazines and 200 live rounds of AK 56 ammunition.
