Kukis rally for separate State

Thousands of Kukis under the aegis of Kuki State Demand Committee today took to the streets demanding a separate Kuki State saying, they need a political space to live in freedom, in their ancestral land.
Convening at Lamka public ground, the rally was addressed by prominent leaders of the KSDC including its Chairman, Chawngthalei who told the gathering that he was more than convinced of attaining a separate Kuki State once the Government realizes the Kukis' true identity.
Taking along the streets adjacent to Tiddim road with their placards that read � Kuki State a constitutional right, expedite dialogue with the Kukis, Kuki State is the answer, restore Kuki ancestral land, Kuki State for peace and many more, the rallyist later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, while they concluded with a public gathering at Peace Ground.

The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) Chandel District also staged a peace rally in pursuit of the demand for a separate Kuki State today, reports our Correspondent.
The rally was started at 11 am from Galngam Lentuol ground and concluded at the office of Hill Tribal Council.
Around 1000 rallyists comprising of village chiefs, leaders of Kuki civil society organizations and people of Kuki community if the border town took part at the rally.
Slogans such as 'Kuki ancestral land, justice and equality for the Kukis' and 'Kuki State our birth right' were reflected in the placards used during the rally.
In this connection, KSDC also faxed a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
