Chafu-Uppi rituals on July 11: Association

While informing that the annual ritual at Chafu-Uppi sacred site, which is performed to bring prosperity to 'king' of the land and the people since time immemorial, falls on July 11 (the second day of Engen month of Meitei calendar) for this year, Manipur Valley Village Reserve Forest Rights Protection Association has appealed to the government to take suitable initiative for conduct of the traditional ritual without any disturbance.
According to a statement of the association, lifeless corpse a Sandangsenba Maring villager was buried in the vicinity of Chafu-Uppi sacred site in March this year and an intense conflict broke out on March 29 when large number of Andro villagers protested against burial of dead body at the sacred site.
However, police managed to control the situation and imposed restriction under CrPC 144 .
While asserting that the traditional ritual at Cha-fu-Uppi sacred site is performed with the approval of the Royal Palace (Sana Konung) since time immemorial, the association urged authority concerned to remove the buried body to enable the traditional ritual to be performed without any disturbance.
