AR holds sports meet, screens patriotic movies

44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sect AR/IGAR (East) organised a three-day Khel Ka Amrut Mahotsav as part of week-long celebration of 75th year of Independence at Namtiram village of Tousem sub-division.
According to an AR statement, the event was organised in collaboration with Namtiram Youth Club as part of Jan Bhagidari celebrations, with an aim of promoting physical, mental and psychological well-being promoting Fit India Mission.
A total of 14 teams including two women's teams competed to prove their mettle in football and volleyball disciplines of the competition which ended Friday.
The AR unit also observed World Humanitarian Day on Friday at the picturesque Langmai village in Zeliad region as a component event of the Khel Mahotsav.
Company Commander, 44 Assam Rifles attended as the chief guest for the final matches of the tournament played at Namtiram village ground.
Speaking on the event, Namtiram Youth Club president Achunbou highlighted the pivotal role sports play in shaping the future generation and the society.
He expressed his desire to have more cooperation in other social welfare fields to further strengthen the bond of friendship and trust among locals and Assam Rifles.
The battalion felicitated the winners and runners up team in both mens and women's category, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Sajik Tampak Battalion of IGAR (South) screened motivational and patriotic movies for the children of Khullen village, Chandel district on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), movies on Kargil war & Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose were screened as part of event and to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The tales of valour and sacrifices of our freedom fighters and brave soldiers made profound impact on young minds, the PRO said, adding that the children and their parents appreciated the endeavours of Assam Rifles for screening of the patriotic movies which not only widened their horizon but also motivated them to join the Armed Forces.
