AR launches 'Save Shirui' campaign

Imphal, August 03 2021: Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) organised a tree plantation drive in collaboration with district administration at Shirui mountain ranges near Shirui village in Ukhrul district on Monday.

According to PRO IG-AR(S), the plantation drive was organised with an aim to restore the Forest cover lost to the wildfire in March this year and to promote 'Go Green Initiative'.

While informing that the wild fire had destroyed more than 115 hectares of the Shirui forest land, the PRO said that locals and youths of Shirui village participated in the event and planted various types of saplings along the steps leading to famous Shirui Kasong peak.

They were also educated about theimportance of trees in maintaining the ecological balance, it added.
