While contending that re-erection of cross at the sacred site of Moirang Thangjing Hills by the Kuki community after the same had been removed is disrespect to the Indian Constitution and an insult to the government of Manipur, Committee on Protection and Preservation of the Historical Rights of Koubru and Thangjing Hill Range has urged the government to initiate legal actions against the Kuki perpetrators.
In a release, the Committee informed that it has urged the state government to take up necessary legal actions against the Kukis militants involved in erecting a cross and flag at the sacred site of Thangjing hill.
The release further said that 4 hectares of Thangjing area, 2 hectares in Koubru and 4 hectares of Lai Pukhri area were declared as 'sacred sites' under section 4 of the Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976.While asserting that the committee will not relent from its stand for the protection and preservation of the said sacred places of the Meiteis, it also urged all CSOs, NGOs and meira paibi groups to extend cooperation to agitations launched to preserve the sacred sites.
