Imphal, January 30 2015 :
The United Naga Council (UNC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Jan 24 seeking his immediate intervention to its demand of Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending Indo-Naga political settlement.
According to a statement issued by the UNC, the PM's intervention was sought as the Nagas living in 'the present State of Manipur' can no longer live under the "communal" Government of Manipur due to its never ending anti-Naga tribal policies and decisions under its Acts, Rules, Orders and Notifications.
"And also, in the name of law and order situation, peaceful and conducive atmosphere is insecure and through induced development in Naga tribal areas, it has become impossible for the Nagas to live with dignity and honour and to protect its land, history, time honoured institution, culture and identity under the present oppressive political system," the UNC said.
Carving out 207 villages for placing them under 4 valley districts through different Govt notifications, extension of Gram Panchayat/Zila Parishad's electoral jurisdiction upon the existing 30 Naga tribal villages of Tribal Hill District Councils' jurisdiction, intense determination of the State Government to construct mega dams and National and international projects like Tipaimukh Dam, Mapithel Dam and Chakpi river dam etc without the consent and informed knowledge of the people and in violation of National and international laws and acquiring 642 acres of land at 44-Yaithibi Loukon, Thoubal district to set up a sports university that include tribal lands of Koijam Maring Naga village and Laiching Maring Naga village are the points highlighted by the UNC in its memorandum.
In view of the present political position and scenario, the UNC will be compelled to take up peaceful and democratic form of movement against the "anti-Naga tribal Government" if the Union Government fails to intervene positively at the earliest, the UNC warned while appealing to all the Naga people to remain prepared for peoples' movement which will be announced very shortly.
