Imphal, March 22 2015: Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup, Kangleipak (MEELAL) has informed All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild, Manipur (EGM) to direct all local newspapers functioning under the two bodies in the State to publish one page of Meetei Mayek (script) from first week of April this year.

A MEELAL statement on Sunday said the decision in this regard was taken in an executive meeting of the organisation held at the Mayai Loisang on March 10 .

Expressing hope that AMWJU and EGM will contribute in promoting Manipuri language and its script, the statement warned that all local dailies failing to issue one page of Meetei Mayek from April first week will enforce MEELAL to ban them.

All newspaper hawkers should also stop distribution of papers which defy the demand of MEELAL, it informed and warned of dire consequences should hawkers go against it.

The statement also informed that MEELAL will organize this year's Meetei Mayek competition for students on April 26 next.
